About: Some confusion reigns about the birthplace of Charles Guilfoyle Doran, but as he was baptised in Knockananna with a probable birthplace of nearby Knocknaskeagh, we shall claim him as a West Wicklow native. This article from Carloviana provides a nice introduction to his life as an engineer, nationalist, historian and book collector (to name just a few of his attributes). Most of his life was spent in the Cobh area of Cork and he was heavily involved in the construction of the cathedral there as well as participating in public life.
